Prevalence of Trichomonas Vaginalis Infection Among Married Pregnant Women in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State

A cross-sectional survey of Trichomonas vaginalis infection has been conducted among married pregnant women attending antenatal clinics, for the first time in pregnancy, direct microscopy technique was adopted. Of 120 studied, 4(3.3%) were infected with T. vaginalis. Individuals age 20-25 years most (3.7%). Women their third trimester pregnancy significantly more (1.1%), than those second (1.6%) and (2.3%). Despite reporting a low prevalence study, this does not imply completely ruling out presence due to diagnostic also that even occurrence hospitals cannot totally explain general occurrence. can be dangerous poses serious threat health. Hence, need prevention efforts should targeted at all child bearing age. Since is primarily sexually transmitted, educational must aimed high risk groups including without any formal education explicit regarding behaviours leads spread vaginalis, other transmitted infections. There proper counseling on sexual behaviour genital hygiene which would greatly help infection.
